Introduction to Alexa Rank

Alexa Rank is a global ranking system that ranks the most popular websites by monitoring web traffic data. This ranking is calculated by combining the site’s estimated average daily unique visitors and the site’s estimated page views over the past 3 months.

While Alexa rankings are a great way to compare one website to another, Alexa’s stats aren’t necessarily the most accurate, in fact, comparing Alexa to Google Analytics concluded that Alexa isn’t that accurate.

Alexa Rank is often cheated

A cheater can manipulate a website’s Alexa ranking by creating a JavaScript function that opens a series of page addresses from the website, with the goal of having each address open in a separate window, thereby increasing pageviews and artificially increasing Alexa rankings.
